The artist has experimented with speakers, wave generators and pitch shifters, designing special units to house separate speaker canopies underneath steel tanks containing water.

She has worked with musicians to create live performances where the sounds of the instruments are sent through her sound fountains.

Caroline has explored interactive possibilities over many years. She worked with programmer Casey Rice in Australia in 2005/07 to develop one of the very first hand built micro controller boards (of that time) which allowed an audience to move through an installation space triggering different soundscapes and recordings sent to different Sound Fountains.

Later interactive versions of her Sound Fountains have involved artist and programmer Noel Murphy and researchers from Horizon Digital Economy Institute at the University of Nottingham.

Sound Fountains continue to develop, with the latest versions utilising physical and environmental data.
