The Hastings Sound Fountain At FACT, Liverpool, UK
In 2015, Locke’s began her artist residency with the ‘Performing Data Group’ based in and around the Horizon Digital Economy Institute at the University of Nottingham.
Caroline’s residency began by exploring possibilities for accessing and sharing the data streams from a sensor set up by ‘Thrill Engineer’ Brendan Walker on Hastings pier and creating the new work Hastings Sound Fountain.
Hastings Sound Fountain was the first development in terms of capturing live data from the environment and using it as part of a performance in real time. Visitors to the ‘Perfoming Data’ exhibition at FACT in July 2015 were able to see the work in connection to Brendan Walkers Storm in a Teacup, which also uses live data from the Hastings sensor.
