| Seeing Sound
Locke has been researching further possibilities to develop the initial characteristics of ‘Hydrophonics’ - her previous work where she explored the sight of sound by sending the sounds of musical instruments through water during a live performance. Using the very latest technology in the field of stereomicroscopy Caroline has extended this research - closing in on the water surface of her specially designed Hydrophonic tank when different instruments and recorded sounds are amplified through it. These microscopic images of sound vibrations through the surface of water vary according to each instrument, sound sample and frequency. Series One – the first images from this experimentation have been exhibited as part of the ‘Open Studio Exhibition’ at Derby University April – May 08. The research continues.
