The performance incorporated a three-way event – simultaneously experienced at the School of Music conservatorium, faculty of Arts, at Monash University, internationally on the world wide web and as part of a special event at the Radiator ‘Festival for New Technology Art: Live over IP’ in Nottingham.
During the Autumn of 2005 (Spring in Australia) Caroline Locke was Visiting Academic/Artist-in-Residence within the Faculty of Art and Design at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. During this time she developed new designs for water tanks and speaker systems and experimented by sending pre recorded sound samples and synthesised sound though new Hydrophonics tanks.
Locke Worked with The Sonic Art Group - Musicians from The School of Music – Conservatorium Monash University who composed music based on the sight of the composition, rather than the sound of it.
The Sonic Art Group performed as part of – Hydrophonics – on Line - sound from one side of the world (Australia) was transmitted via the web to interact with a live installation in the UK. Working with new web technologies, through collaboration with web streaming specialists Active Ingredient and CEMA (Centre for electronic and media arts) at Monash University, the work was developed to be transmitted across vast physical distances and experienced by an audience on an international scale.
