| RAW SPACE RESIDENCY
14/08/05 – 05/09/05
An Australian project where International artists worked with Australian Artists.
Caroline Locke was invited as an International artist to work with Australian artists Sarah Jane Pell, Lawrence English and Harold Scott (from New Zealand). The group lived and worked in the Raw Space Residential and moving image studios in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Research included using up to date technologies, discussing latest developments and sharing resources. Locke also worked with Sarah and Lawrence using an adapted surgical stethoscope enabling them to send the sound of a live heart beat through her hydrophonic tanks. Using a hydrophone, they also recorded sounds from local water sources and collected other sound samples, which Locke sent through her ‘Hydrophonic’ tanks later at Monash University.
A seminar was delivered as part of this residency at The IMA – Institute of Modern Art – Sept 2005.
Locke later used sound samples that she recorded during the residency and video footage to create a new version of her sound and video installation BADNOISE .
ARC biennial – 28-30th Oct 05 – Locke’s sound and video Installation - “Badnoise” was exhibited as part of ‘Uncovered’ at the ARC Biennial – Major Australian arts festival opened by UK Art Critic Mathew Collins.
